Illuminating the Night Sky of Shalun: Hello! Tainan

March 1, 2024

The 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival has been lighting up the Tainan High-Speed Rail Lantern District for a week since its grand opening, with festivities running until March 10. Visitor turnout is expected to surpass 10 million. At the heart of the festival lies the Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center, hosting the 2024 Taiwan International Orchid Show, where attendees can purchase tickets to admire the exquisite floral displays. South of the center, two main themed exhibition areas—“Illuminating Shalun” and “Hello! Tainan”—showcase local hotel cuisines, smart green energy technology, and interactive experiences. Comfortable seating areas invite visitors to relax and fully immerse themselves in the event.

Illuminating Shalun: A Hub of Sustainability and Green Innovation

One of the highlights of Illuminating Shalun is five uniquely themed glasshouses. National Cheng Kung University has curated exhibits featuring groundbreaking interdisciplinary sustainability research, demonstrating the academic prowess of Tainan. Additionally, Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City presents innovative technologies, including an autonomous driving experimental vehicle. Since the festival’s opening on February 24, these activities have attracted over 1,000 visitors. From March 1 to March 3, attendees who take photos with the #IlluminatingShalun glasshouse, themed Net Zero Tainan, can participate in a prize draw for exclusive gifts.

Dalin Construction’s interactive booth is another crowd favorite, featuring captivating nighttime projections and opportunities to take photos with its mascot, Dalin Baby. Visitors who join in have the chance to receive special gifts, adding to the excitement of the festival.

Hello! Tainan: A Culinary Celebration of Local Charm

The Hello! Tainan area highlights Tainan’s unique flavors by collaborating with three prominent local hotels. Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Tainan delights visitors with freshly prepared gourmet meals. Silks Place Tainan impresses with live demonstrations of traditional steamed dim sum, including molten custard buns and honey-glazed barbecue pork buns, which have become a festival highlight. Meanwhile, Justwin Grand Hotel serves its signature roasted duck submarine sandwiches and Portuguese egg tarts, prepared fresh on-site with exclusive discounts for festival-goers. These culinary experiences not only celebrate Tainan’s rich culture but also provide visitors with memorable interactive dining moments.

Connecting Brands, Citizens, and a Vibrant Future

The Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center’s glasshouse activities are branded under the theme “Island of Trade, World Tainan.” This initiative has successfully engaged the community and local brands through innovative promotional strategies. Over the festival’s 16 days, visitors are encouraged to join the center’s LINE@ group, earning luxurious gifts as rewards while enhancing their connection to the event.

Digital advertising by Digital Sharing Technology—featuring rechargeable LED pillars—adds to the event’s dynamic atmosphere, replacing traditional printed ads. SoMo Club’s electric scooters showcase the mobility and practicality of smart green energy solutions, offering convenient transportation for staff and highlighting the potential of Shalun’s innovative tech ecosystem.

Exclusive Perks and Expanding Tainan’s Vibrancy

Visitors also enjoy complimentary snacks and gifts, such as Cheetos from PepsiCo, premium coffee beans from Yunpin Coffee, and an array of popular Taiwanese snacks from brands like Lian Hwa Foods and Koikeya. These offerings have further elevated the festival’s appeal and strengthened connections between attendees and participating brands.

A Perfect Venue for Large-Scale Events

The Taiwan Lantern Festival at Shalun has already drawn millions of attendees, thanks in part to the exceptional accessibility of the Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center. The venue’s spacious indoor and outdoor areas, enhanced by recent festival upgrades, are ideal for hosting future exhibitions, performances, and markets. Beyond lighting up the night sky, Illuminating Shalun symbolizes the center’s role as a cultural and technological showcase for Tainan.

With its combination of innovation, culture, and community engagement, the festival extends a warm invitation to the world: Hello! Tainan. Come and experience the vibrant charm of this globally connected city.
