In response to President Lai Ching-te’s policy vision of “Healthy Taiwan” and “Equitable Taiwan,” and in line with the Executive Yuan’s promotion of the “Greater South New Silicon Valley Plan,” the National Science and Technology Council, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Tainan City Government joined hands to host the “Greater South AI Smart Health Expo” starting today (12th) for two consecutive days at ICC Tainan. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che accompanied Premier Cho Jung-tai this afternoon to attend the opening ceremony and tour the exhibition areas, jointly witnessing the development achievements of the smart health industry.

 

Cho Jung-tai stated that the “Greater South AI Smart Health Expo” gathers the smart health industry, medical institutions, academic and research institutes, and AI technology vendors, showcasing Taiwan’s innovative achievements in the smart health field and concretely implementing President Lai Ching-te’s policy philosophy of promoting “Healthy Taiwan” and “Equitable Taiwan.” He also pointed out that the government is actively promoting the standardization and establishment of electronic medical records (EMR) and medical data, expecting to complete the EMR system implementation for medical centers this year (2026), expand to regional and local hospitals next year (2027), and further promote it to primary care clinics and public health centers in 2028, reducing duplicate examinations and medical costs while lightening the administrative burden on medical personnel through medical information interoperability.

 

Cho Jung-tai emphasized that in the future, the government will continue to promote data governance and data opening, allowing health data—under the premise of balancing personal data protection, information security, and legal utilization—to become an important foundation for driving the development of the smart health industry. Furthermore, through introducing AI technology into medical and care systems, it can not only assist medical personnel in enhancing work efficiency, but also build a safer, more convenient, and higher-quality healthcare environment for the public, making technology a truly vital force in safeguarding national health.

 

Huang Wei-che stated that AI artificial intelligence has become an important tool driving industrial and societal progress; as President Lai Ching-te mentioned, AI will be the “Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber” of the future. In the medical and health field, facing challenges such as heavy diagnostic workloads for physicians and shortages of nursing personnel, AI can assist doctors in image interpretation, medical judgment, and medical record transcription, enhancing medical efficiency and precision while reducing the administrative burden on healthcare staff, allowing more manpower to be devoted to patient care and further elevating overall medical service quality.

 

Huang Wei-che pointed out that hosting the Greater South AI Smart Health Expo in Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City holds special significance. The Shalun park was planned and promoted by President Lai during his tenure as Tainan Mayor, and after years of development, it has become a technological innovation stronghold in Southern Taiwan. He expressed gratitude to the Executive Yuan, the National Science and Technology Council, and the Ministry of Digital Affairs for supporting the development of the smart health industry, stating that the city government will continue to align with central government policies and technology development trends to accelerate the practical application of AI technology, joining hands to build a more comprehensive smart medical environment.

 

The Economic Development Bureau mentioned that this exhibition plans five major thematic exhibition zones, including “Smart Peaceful Residence” demonstrating 24-hour home care applications, “Tech New Banyan Village” combining technology-enabled rehabilitation training, “Cloud Clinic Court” displaying AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment technologies, “Industry Empowerment Port” promoting industry exchanges and cooperation, and “Health New Bazaar” presenting digital transformation achievements in smart medicine. The expo gathers over 100 vendors, displaying more than 120 innovative technologies and products, promoting the development of the smart health industry through achievement displays and business matchmaking, with an estimated potential business opportunity exceeding NT$100 million.

 

The Economic Development Bureau noted that during the exhibition period, surrounding tourism, dining, and accommodation resources are also linked, partnering with the neighboring Mitsui Outlet Park Tainan to push exhibition information and distribute discount coupons via APP, encouraging the public to visit nearby attractions after touring the exhibition. Leveraging the exhibition’s spillover effects, it will further drive local tourism and consumption momentum.

 

Today’s event gathered distinguished guests including Minister without Portfolio and Minister of the National Science and Technology Council Wu Cheng-wen, Minister of Digital Affairs Lin Yi-jing, Executive Yuan Spokesperson Li Hui-chi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Ruan Chao-hsiung, Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Chuang Jen-hsiang, Deputy Minister of the National Development Council Peng Li-pei, Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Yuan’s Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Joint Services Center Liu Mi-shan, Deputy Mayor of Tainan City Chao Ching-hui, Deputy Minister of the National Science and Technology Council Su Chen-kang, Director-General of the Administration for Digital Industries of the Ministry of Digital Affairs Lin Jiunn-shiow, and Chairman of the Institute for Information Industry Huang Chung-ming, along with Legislators Chen Ting-fei and Wang Ting-yu, as well as representatives from the service offices of Legislators Lin Chuin-hsien and Lin I-chin.
