Jan 19, 2026
TAINAN, TAIWAN — The groundbreaking ceremony for “Wudong House” (武東好室), a social housing project initiated by the National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center (HURC), was held today (March 19). Scheduled for completion in 2029, the project will add 193 social housing units to Tainan City’s growing residential inventory.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-cher noted that “Wudong House” is the second federal-led social housing project to break ground in the Guiren District. He emphasized that the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City and the Tainan High-Speed Rail Station Specific District are poised for continued expansion. Mayor Huang expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of the Interior and the HURC for their collaboration in providing citizens with more diverse housing options.
Lin Rong-chuan, Acting Director-General of the Urban Development Bureau, explained that the site is strategically located within the blocks of Gaotie Boulevard, Sec. 2 of Zhongzheng South Road, and Gaotie 12th Road. The development will include an on-site infant daycare center to provide essential care resources for residents. Furthermore, the project is situated near Mitsui OUTLET PARK and ICC Tainan, and is only a five-minute drive from the Tainan HSR Station and the TRA Shalun Station.
The Urban Development Bureau added that the city government remains committed to promoting “Livable Social Housing” in partnership with the central government. Following the completion of the city-led “Livable Xiaodong” project in the North District, the application and lottery schedule will be announced soon. Citizens are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates.
