Sustainability
ICC Tainan has been thoughtfully designed with the highest standards in sustainability in mind, focusing on green energy and carbon reduction, and creating a safe, convenient, and truly sustainable urban environment for everyone.
With both the Taiwan Green Building Silver label and Smart Building label, our convention center provides a space for meeting planners to host events that will meet their ESG goals.
Green by design
ICC Tainan is a new milestone in Tainan’s meeting industry and economy. While our convention center enhances the city brand and its international presence, it also embodies its commitment to a greener, more sustainable, and low-carbon future.
Fastest to obtain ISO20121
We are a global provider of professional convention and exhibition venues, offering a sustainable event management system.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Department of International Trade (TAITRA) have joined forces to launch the Sustainable MICE Award, a program designed to encourage Taiwanese exhibition organizers to achieve sustainability goals through the implementation of sustainable ESG practices, resource conservation, and carbon emission reduction.
In 2023, out of a total of 35 projects submitted, ICC Tainan was selected as the winner in the ‘Sustainable MICE Award – SDG Implementation’ category. Striving to create a more sustainable future, ICC Tainan will continue to push forward for more green and carbon-reducing measures in the business event industry.
The Sustainable MICE Award, organized by the International Trade Administration, recognizes efforts in implementing ESG principles and reducing carbon emissions in the MICE industry. Out of 35 competing projects this year, ICC Tainan was awarded first place in the Sustainability Implementation category.
ICC Tainan follows ISO 20121 standards and its own sustainability policy to promote green operations. Highlights include:
- A steel cable truss roof that reduces steel usage by 20%, cutting carbon emissions equivalent to 35,000 trees.
- Rooftop solar panels generating power for over 1,300 households annually.
- An energy-saving HVAC system reducing electricity use by 35%.
- Over 34,000 plants around the venue, 77% of which are native species, sequestering over 7,000 tons of carbon.
In recognition of its energy-saving design and operations, ICC Tainan also received the 2024 Smart Building Excellence Award from the Ministry of the Interior, and was certified under ISO 50001, marking a new milestone in sustainable venue management.
ESG Overarching Goals
Green and Smart Convention Center
ICC Tainan is dedicated to establishing itself as a model of smart and green venue. It has become the first convention and exhibition venue in Taiwan to receive ISO 20121 certification in a fast-track manner. Its primary objective is to advance green and sustainable MICE practices in accordance with international standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also becoming a leader in energy conservation, carbon reduction, and resource recycling.
Getting into the spirit of SDGs
The venue has been integrating the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its daily operations and management, promoting green environmental protection policies, and encouraging event organizers to incorporate sustainability into their MICE events to contribute to global sustainable development.
