Green by design

ICC Tainan is a new milestone in Tainan’s meeting industry and economy. While our convention center enhances the city brand and its international presence, it also embodies its commitment to a greener, more sustainable, and low-carbon future.

Building Materials

The roof of the exhibition center is supported by high-performance steel cable trusses, which have reduced steel consumption and construction materials by 20%. This amounts to reducing the carbon emissions equivalent to those absorbed by 35,000 trees per year.

Renewable energy

Tainan enjoys an average of 2,500 hours of sunshine per year. The exhibition and conference buildings are equipped with large-area solar panels on their roofs, allowing the venue to generate electricity for part of its operation. The annual power generation can even be used by 1,318 families for a year. The air-conditioning system has also been designed to be energy-efficient, reducing electricity consumption by 35%, making our center a model of green operations in the meeting industry in Taiwan.

Green surroundings

ICC Tainan has planted 34,375 plants in the surrounding hinterland, 77% of which are Taiwan’s native species. The total carbon sequestration equals 7,060 metric tons. This creates an ideal environment for the local fauna and flora to prosper around the convention center.
In addition to becoming a trade and cultural hub for Tainan’s international development, ICC Tainan also aims to promote green events, move towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and become a sustainable role model in the exhibition industry.

Fastest to obtain ISO20121

We are a global provider of professional convention and exhibition venues, offering a sustainable event management system.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Department of International Trade (TAITRA) have joined forces to launch the Sustainable MICE Award, a program designed to encourage Taiwanese exhibition organizers to achieve sustainability goals through the implementation of sustainable ESG practices, resource conservation, and carbon emission reduction.

In 2023, out of a total of 35 projects submitted, ICC Tainan was selected as the winner in the ‘Sustainable MICE Award – SDG Implementation’ category. Striving to create a more sustainable future, ICC Tainan will continue to push forward for more green and carbon-reducing measures in the business event industry.

  • The exhibition and conference building features large-area solar panels on the roof, with an annual power generation capacity sufficient to meet the energy needs of 1,318 families for one year.
  • The air conditioning system has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, resulting in a 35% reduction in power consumption.
  • The surrounding area was planted with 34,375 green plants, including 77% of Taiwan’s native species, with a total carbon sequestration equivalent of 7,060 metric tons.

ESG Overarching Goals

Green and Smart Convention Center

ICC Tainan is dedicated to establishing itself as a model of smart and green venue. It has become the first convention and exhibition venue in Taiwan to receive ISO 20121 certification in a fast-track manner. Its primary objective is to advance green and sustainable MICE practices in accordance with international standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also becoming a leader in energy conservation, carbon reduction, and resource recycling.

Getting into the spirit of SDGs

The venue has been integrating the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its daily operations and management, promoting green environmental protection policies, and encouraging event organizers to incorporate sustainability into their MICE events to contribute to global sustainable development.
