Trump 2.0 Era: Economic Development Bureau Pushes for Upgrading the Auto Parts Industry
Mar 03, 2025
The Trump 2.0 era has arrived, bringing the cancellation of electric vehicle subsidies and a renewed focus on oil extraction to boost the traditional automotive industry. In Tainan, many local auto parts manufacturers are considered “hidden champions” in the global market. The Tainan Economic Development Bureau will continue to promote technological innovation and research within the local auto parts cluster, helping businesses enhance product value and improve market competitiveness.
According to the Economic Development Bureau, newly inaugurated U.S. President Trump has been in office for over a month. Since taking office, he has signed several executive orders, including withdrawing from the World Health Organization, ending birthright citizenship, deporting undocumented immigrants, canceling electric vehicle subsidies, and promoting oil extraction to drive the growth of the automotive industry.
The Bureau also noted that speakers at the 2025 Tainan Auto & Motorcycle Show Industry Forum believe that the revival of the U.S. traditional automotive manufacturing sector will lead to a continued surge in orders. Tainan is one of Taiwan’s key automotive industry clusters, home to internationally renowned companies such as Tong Yang, the world’s leading bumper manufacturer; Depo, Taiwan’s largest aftermarket (AM) automotive lighting company; Zanyung, the largest commercial vehicle lighting manufacturer in Taiwan; and Lioho, Taiwan’s top modified car lighting manufacturer. This unique industrial cluster sets Tainan apart from other regions.
As demand from U.S. traditional automakers continues to grow, Tainan’s auto parts cluster is expected to further increase its global market share. Through the 2025 Tainan Auto & Motorcycle Show Industry Forum, the Bureau aims to build consensus with industry players and continue driving innovation and technology development within the cluster, with the ultimate goal of enhancing product value and market competitiveness.
