Showcasing Tainan’s Exhibition Strength: Greater Tainan Convention Center Hosts the 23rd World Orchid Conference
February 23, 2024
The 20th Taiwan International Orchid Show and the 23rd World Orchid Conference will take place from February 24 to March 10, coinciding with the Taiwan Lantern Festival at the High-Speed Rail Zone. A press conference will be held on February 22 at the Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center, marking the first time this international-level conference with participants from 62 countries is being hosted at the center. This aligns with the center’s brand spirit, “Island of Trade, Tainan to the World,” and the exhibition theme, “Tainan in the World, the World in Tainan,” highlighting Tainan’s strengths in the exhibition economy.
After overcoming the challenges of the pandemic, Tainan, one of Taiwan’s six largest cities despite having the smallest population, has actively invited various industries to host exhibitions and conferences to drive local economic recovery and development. The Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center not only provides professional services for exhibitions and international conferences but also collaborates with regional entities, such as Shalun Green Energy Science City, and partners with local hospitality businesses to boost city branding and economic growth.
During the Taiwan Lantern Festival, the center has coordinated two major themes at the main lantern zone near its southern facade: “Light Up Shalun” and “Hello! Tainan.” The “Light Up Shalun” glasshouse exhibit features contributions from the Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center, Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City Office, NAR Labs, Taiwan CAR Lab, Shalun Biomedical Service and Innovation Park, Dalin Construction, and others, showcasing Tainan’s commitment to industrial development and technological innovation. Meanwhile, the “Hello! Tainan” themed booths, supported by prominent hotels such as Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Tainan, Silks Place Tainan, and Hotel Cozzi Tainan, offer visitors a chance to enjoy local culinary delights while taking in the festival.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che emphasized at the press conference that the combination of the 20th Taiwan International Orchid Show and the 23rd World Orchid Conference represents a milestone for Taiwan’s orchid industry on the global stage, creating new economic opportunities. The exhibition will feature an orchid wall adorned with national flags from 62 countries, underscoring the diversity and technological achievements of Taiwan’s orchid industry.
By hosting the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan’s High-Speed Rail Zone, the Greater Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center not only demonstrates the city’s strength as a trade hub but also underscores its commitment to connecting the local economy with the international community. Through the festival, both Taiwan and the world will witness the vibrancy of Tainan’s exhibition economy and Taiwan’s potential in cultural and industrial development.
